SBI Plans 12000 New Hires: SBI Plans Up to 12000 New Hires This Financial Year

State Bank of India plans to recruit up to 12000 employees and open 250 new branches this financial year as part of its wider expansion and workforce planning.

SBI Plans 12000 New Hires: State Bank of India is preparing for another round of hiring as the country’s largest public sector bank looks to strengthen its workforce and expand its branch network.

SBI Chairman Challa Srinivasulu Setty said the bank is planning to recruit around 11000 to 12000 people during the current financial year. The hiring will mainly cover clerical and officer level positions.

The recruitment plan takes into account employee retirements as well as the bank’s growing operational requirements. With SBI continuing to expand its services, the additional workforce is expected to help the bank manage its large network more effectively.

Branch expansion is also on the bank’s agenda. SBI is considering opening between 200 and 250 new branches during the year, according to the chairman. The move is aimed at taking banking services to more locations and strengthening the bank’s already extensive presence across the country.

SBI had more than 245000 employees as of March 2026. The bank recruited 25633 people during the previous financial year, showing that hiring remains a major part of its efforts to maintain staffing levels.

The latest recruitment plan is expected to be closely watched by job seekers, particularly those preparing for banking examinations. Positions in the clerical and officer categories are likely to attract significant interest once the recruitment process is formally announced.

The bank’s expansion comes alongside other developments involving the financial sector. SBI and its subsidiary SBI Capital Markets are set to jointly sell a one percent stake in the proposed National Stock Exchange IPO, which is expected to be worth around 30000 crore rupees.

For SBI, the focus remains on balancing workforce requirements with its broader expansion plans. More branches and additional employees are expected to support the bank as it continues to serve customers across urban, semi urban and rural markets.

The exact recruitment schedule, number of vacancies in each category and application details are expected to be announced separately by the bank. Job aspirants will need to wait for the official notification before applying.
