India’s economy recorded a stronger than expected start to the financial year, with GDP growth accelerating to 7.8% during the April to June quarter.

India GDP Growth Hits 7.8%: India’s economic growth picked up pace in the first quarter of the current financial year, with the economy expanding 7.8% between April and June, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The latest figure marks an improvement from the 6.9% growth recorded during the same quarter a year earlier. The government said the performance reflected continued economic momentum despite challenging conditions in the global economy.
At constant prices, real GDP for the April to June quarter was estimated at Rs 81.36 lakh crore. This compares with Rs 75.46 lakh crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the 2025 to 26 financial year.
The government also pointed to growth in nominal GDP, which is measured at current prices. Nominal GDP was estimated at Rs 88.27 lakh crore in the latest quarter, up from Rs 80 lakh crore during the same period last year. That represents a growth rate of 10.3%.
The figures indicate that economic activity remained firm during the opening quarter of the financial year. The Centre said India continued to remain on a growth path even as economies around the world faced various headwinds.
The latest GDP numbers will be closely watched as policymakers and businesses assess the pace of economic activity in the months ahead.
