Nepal Floods: Nepal Floods Leave 288 Indians Missing
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said 288 Indian nationals remain missing after sudden floods in Nepal, while rescue teams continue efforts and emergency assistance reaches affected areas.
Nepal Floods: India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reported that 288 Indian nationals are missing following the devastating floods in Nepal. So far, 21 Indians have been rescued, with all of them reportedly from Tamil Nadu.
The missing Indians include 73 workers from the Trishuli-1 hydropower project. Two tourist groups from Tamil Nadu, consisting of 37 and 49 people, are also among those whose whereabouts remain unknown. The list further includes 32 people from West Bengal and 33 from Kerala, while the remaining individuals are from other parts of India.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Indian authorities are coordinating closely with Nepalese officials on rescue operations. India has already sent two aircraft carrying humanitarian assistance to Kathmandu, delivering 47.5 tonnes of emergency supplies. A Bailey bridge is also being sent to support relief efforts.
Several Indian citizens who travelled for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage are reportedly stranded in Tibet, China. Around 200 people have sought assistance, according to the MEA. A dedicated control room has also been established in New Delhi to coordinate assistance.
The disaster has affected both Nepal and Tibet, with the combined death toll reportedly reaching 270 and more than 1,600 people missing. According to Nepal Tourism Board figures, more than 500 foreign nationals are among those missing.
Many of the affected people had travelled to the region for trekking or the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. Missing foreign nationals reportedly include citizens from more than 30 countries, including the United States, Ukraine and Malaysia.
