Heavy rains and sudden flooding in Nepal have caused widespread destruction, with officials estimating around 1,000 people missing as rescue teams search affected areas.
Nepal Flash Floods: Nepal is facing a severe flood situation after heavy rainfall triggered sudden surges in several rivers. The Bhote Koshi River overflowed, affecting parts of Nuwakot and Dhading districts.
Officials estimate that around 1,000 people were swept away by floodwaters in Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning. Among those reported missing are believed to be 105 Indian nationals.
The flooding, reportedly linked to sudden water flow from the Tibet side, caused major damage across several locations. Villages, bridges and infrastructure projects were inundated or washed away as the river rose rapidly.
Rescue operations have been intensified in the affected areas. Authorities have deployed 15 helicopters, while rescue personnel have already brought 20 people to safety from Busi and Tusu areas. Those injured have been shifted to a training camp in Machhil for medical treatment.
At least eight bodies have been recovered from the floodwaters so far, according to officials. Search and rescue teams are continuing efforts to locate people who remain unaccounted for.
Authorities have also issued warnings to residents living along riverbanks and in other vulnerable areas. People in these locations have been advised to move to safer places as precautionary measures remain in place.
