Shavukaru Janaki’s Last Rites to Be Held in Chennai on Saturday

Shavukaru Janaki’s final rites will be held in Chennai on Saturday as family, fans and film personalities prepare to bid farewell to the veteran actress.

The final rites of veteran actress and Padma Shri awardee Shavukaru Janaki will be held in Chennai on Saturday afternoon, as her family members have confirmed.

Shavukaru Janaki, who was 94, passed away at her Chennai residence on Friday afternoon after suffering from age related health problems. Her death has brought an emotional end to a remarkable career that lasted nearly seven decades.

Her mortal remains will be kept at her residence on Saturday morning to allow relatives, friends, fans and members of the public to pay their final respects. The family plans to conduct the last rites at the Besant Nagar crematorium later in the afternoon.

Born on December 12, 1931, as Shankaramanchi Janaki, she entered the film industry with the Telugu movie Shavukaru. The film became closely associated with her identity, and she came to be widely known by the name Shavukaru Janaki.

Over the course of her long career, she worked across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam cinema and appeared in more than 400 films. Her performances and distinctive screen presence earned her a special place among senior Indian film personalities.

Several leading actors and members of the film fraternity, including Chiranjeevi, Kamal Haasan, Jr NTR and Vishnu Manchu, expressed their condolences following her passing. Her contribution to Indian cinema has been remembered with deep respect by colleagues and admirers.

Janaki is survived by three children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her final journey in Chennai is expected to bring together family members, film personalities and admirers who wish to pay their last respects to the veteran actress.
