Xiaomi HyperOS 4 Arrives With New Glass Design and Super AI Assistant 2.0

Xiaomi has officially unveiled HyperOS 4, bringing a noticeable visual overhaul along with new artificial intelligence features and improvements designed to make its devices feel faster and more responsive.

The update is starting its journey through a beta programme in China, with selected flagship phones and tablets getting access first. Xiaomi has not yet revealed when HyperOS 4 will reach global markets, leaving international users waiting for further details.

One of the biggest changes is the new interface. Xiaomi has adopted a glass inspired visual style with realistic refraction effects across supported elements. The design also gives users more control over how information appears on the screen.

Users can move elements such as the clock and notifications, resize folders and group widgets together. Xiaomi has also improved the way apps behave when switching between portrait and landscape orientations. Floating windows can now adjust their position to match the orientation of the application.

Performance is another major focus of HyperOS 4. Xiaomi claims that apps can open up to 18 percent faster after nine hours of continuous use compared with HyperOS 3. The company says its system can predict which resources a user is likely to need next and prepare them in RAM ahead of time.

Artificial intelligence is also taking a larger role. Super AI Assistant 2.0 is powered by Xiaomi’s own MiMo large language model and is designed to handle tasks such as voice transcription, organising notes, searching photos and creating travel plans. It can also interact with supported smart home and smart car devices.

Another new addition called Inspiration Ball is intended to provide useful contextual information while users interact with the interface and AI assistant. The feature is part of Xiaomi’s broader effort to make AI more integrated into everyday device use rather than keeping it limited to individual applications.

The first beta wave includes the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17, Redmi K90 Pro Max, Redmi K90 Pro Max Champion Edition, Redmi K90, Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro and Xiaomi Pad 8.

The second group is scheduled to receive the beta from August 27, followed by a third group beginning September 17. The later batches include several Xiaomi 15 and Redmi K series models, along with devices such as the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2, Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra and Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro 12.5.

Xiaomi has also made it clear that HyperOS versions do not directly correspond to Android version numbers. This means the operating system name alone does not indicate which Android release sits underneath it.

For now, the biggest question is when HyperOS 4 will move beyond China. Xiaomi has yet to provide a global release timeline, but the new design and expanded AI capabilities suggest the update could become one of the company’s more significant software releases.
