Vande Mataram Red Fort: Vande Mataram to Be Sung in Full at Red Fort on August 15

Vande Mataram Red Fort: This year’s Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort are set to have a special focus on Vande Mataram, with the national song expected to be sung in full during the August 15 programme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to reach the Red Fort before the national flag is hoisted. The full rendition of Vande Mataram is expected to take place before the flag ceremony, followed by the Prime Minister’s address to the nation.

The invitation cards for the event have reportedly included the complete lyrics of Vande Mataram, allowing guests to join in during the rendition.

Around 27,000 people are expected to attend the 80th Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi, according to a senior Defence Ministry official. Young innovators, interns, entrepreneurs and students have also been invited to take part in the event.

The celebrations will focus on two major themes this year, marking 150 years of Vande Mataram and highlighting the role of youth in building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Vande Mataram is expected to remain one of the key highlights of the celebrations as the government marks 150 years of the song. The Union Home Ministry had earlier issued guidelines for singing selected verses of the song at official programmes.

The government has also taken steps concerning the status and protection of national symbols. Parliament has approved the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Bill 2026, which includes provisions for action against acts that obstruct or insult the national song. The proposed penalties include imprisonment of up to three years along with a fine.
