Michelin Primacy 5 Arrives With Longer Tyre Life and Better Road Grip

Michelin has introduced Primacy 5 in India for sedans SUVs and electric vehicles promising stronger wet braking longer tread life improved comfort and efficiency for drivers seeking premium performance nationwide.

Michelin has expanded its premium tyre range in India with the launch of the Primacy 5, a new passenger car tyre developed for sedans, SUVs and electric vehicles. The company says the new product focuses on safety, durability, comfort and improved efficiency for everyday driving.

A major highlight of the launch is that the Primacy 5 is being manufactured locally in India. It becomes Michelin’s first locally produced passenger car tyre in the country, marking an important step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its domestic manufacturing presence.

The new tyre is now available across India through Michelin’s authorised tyre and service centres as well as more than 800 authorised dealers. Customers can choose from sizes ranging from 16 inches to 22 inches, covering a broad selection of passenger vehicles.

According to the company, a new tyre can achieve a wet braking distance up to 8 metres shorter than competing tyres under the tested conditions.

The company also claims that the advantage continues even as the tyre wears. When worn, the Primacy 5 can offer a braking distance that is up to 9 metres shorter than competing tyres under the specified test conditions. On dry roads, Michelin reports an improvement of around 4 metres in braking performance.

Durability has also received attention during development. Michelin says the Primacy 5 can provide approximately 8 percent more tyre life than the previous Primacy 4 ST. The company attributes this improvement to a new rubber compound and redesigned tread pattern intended to support longer usage.

For drivers who spend long hours on the road, comfort is another important consideration. Michelin claims the new tyre offers around 9 percent more comfort than comparable premium tyres in its segment. The design is intended to reduce road vibrations and noise, helping create a quieter and smoother driving experience.

The tyre is also designed to work with petrol and diesel cars as well as electric vehicles. This is increasingly important as electric cars become more common in India and tyre manufacturers adapt their products to the specific requirements of heavier and quieter EVs.

Efficiency is another area where Michelin says the Primacy 5 has made progress. Compared with the previous Primacy 4 ST, the company claims fuel efficiency can improve by around 6.4 percent. For electric vehicles, lower rolling resistance could help reduce energy consumption and potentially support better driving range.
