WhatsApp Web Gets Video Calling and New Features for Better Online Meetings

WhatsApp has expanded the capabilities of its web platform by introducing a range of new calling features that allow users to make both audio and video calls directly from a browser. The latest update removes the need to download the desktop application, making it easier for users to stay connected from laptops and desktop computers.

One of the biggest additions is support for one to one and group audio and video calls on WhatsApp Web. Users can now start or join calls directly through the browser while continuing to benefit from end to end encryption. According to the company, these calls will not have any time restrictions, and users will not be required to pay any additional charges for using the service.

Along with browser based calling, WhatsApp has also introduced new tools that give users greater control during group conversations. A new Call Transfer feature allows an ongoing group call to be moved from one device to another without disconnecting participants. For example, someone who starts a call on a mobile phone while traveling can continue the same conversation on a laptop after reaching home without ending the session.

The company has also added a Waiting Room feature to improve group call management. Participants joining through a shared call link will first enter a virtual waiting area before being admitted into the conversation. The call organizer or manager will have the ability to approve new participants, offering better privacy and control during meetings and group discussions.

To improve the overall calling experience, WhatsApp has introduced the QuickHD feature for video calls. This enhancement enables users to receive high definition video quality much faster at the beginning of a call. Previously, video quality would gradually improve over time, but the new system aims to deliver a clearer picture almost immediately after the connection is established.

Audio quality has also received attention with the introduction of Noise Suppression technology. The feature reduces unwanted background sounds and helps make the speaker’s voice clearer during conversations. This can be especially useful when taking calls from busy public places or noisy environments.

In addition to these improvements, WhatsApp Web now supports screen sharing and in call reactions, making virtual meetings and personal conversations more interactive. These additions bring the browser version closer to the experience already available on the mobile and desktop applications.
