India enjoyed one of its most successful days at the Commonwealth Games 2026 after securing six medals across athletics, para athletics and weightlifting on Tuesday. The impressive results strengthened the country’s medal tally and highlighted the growing depth of Indian talent across multiple sporting disciplines.
Athletics produced historic moments for India during the competition. Sarvesh Kushare claimed the silver medal in the men’s high jump and became the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games silver in the event. In para athletics, Sharmila Dhankar delivered a memorable performance by winning the gold medal in the women’s shot put, earning India’s first ever gold in Commonwealth Games para athletics. Shilpa Shaila added to the celebrations by securing the bronze medal in the same event.
Indian weightlifters once again lived up to expectations with another strong display. Andhra Pradesh lifter Valluri Ajay Babu secured the silver medal in the men’s 79 kilogram category. Gyaneshwari Yadav also finished with silver in the women’s 53 kilogram event, while Bindyarani Devi earned the bronze medal in the women’s 58 kilogram category.
India also continued to make progress in several other competitions. Boxers Sachin Siwach, Ankush and Sakshi Chaudhary advanced to the quarterfinals and moved within touching distance of medal finishes. In athletics, M Sreeshankar and Lokesh Satyanathan qualified for the men’s long jump final, keeping India’s medal hopes alive.
There was also disappointment for Tejas Shirse, who had earlier made history by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the Commonwealth Games men’s 110 metre hurdles final. An injury ruled him out of medal contention despite his impressive achievement. Overall, it turned out to be another memorable day for India as the athletes continued to shine on the Commonwealth Games stage.
