Mother and Live In Partner Arrested After Toddler’s Death in Kerala
Police arrested a woman and her live in partner after a toddler's death revealed multiple injuries, prompting an investigation that uncovered allegations of prolonged abuse and torture.

A shocking child abuse case has emerged from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district, where a woman and her live in partner have been arrested in connection with the death of a one and a half year old boy.
The case came under intense scrutiny after a postmortem examination reportedly found dozens of injuries on the child’s body. Investigators discovered signs of severe physical trauma, including internal bleeding and injuries to sensitive parts of the body. Medical findings also indicated evidence of older injuries that had occurred before the child’s death.
The deceased child, Arshid, was the son of Akhila from her first marriage. Police said she had been living with a man identified as Ashkar for some time. The child died under suspicious circumstances on May 29, raising concerns among relatives.
Family members questioned earlier explanations given about injuries suffered by the boy. Relatives recalled that the child had previously sustained fractures in both arms, and they expressed doubts about claims that those injuries resulted from accidental falls.
The child’s grandmother approached authorities and filed a complaint alleging that the toddler had been subjected to repeated abuse. Following the complaint and preliminary findings, police arrested both Akhila and Ashkar.
The investigation also brought attention to allegations made by relatives of Ashkar’s wife. Family members claimed that he had a history of violent behavior and had previously subjected his wife to serious abuse. Authorities are examining all aspects of the case as part of the ongoing probe.
The incident has triggered outrage in the local community, with many demanding strict action against those responsible for the child’s death.
