The tragic death of a young Indian student in Canada has left her family and community devastated, while raising fresh concerns about the safety of international students living overseas. Vidhi Megha, a 22 year old student from Gujarat, was reportedly killed after resisting an attempted robbery in the Niagara region.

According to information shared by her family, the incident occurred when a local man allegedly tried to force her to hand over money. Her father said Vidhi refused to comply and courageously confronted the attacker, leading to a violent assault that ultimately claimed her life.

Vidhi, a resident of Borsad in Gujarat, had been living in Canada for the past four years to pursue higher education. After completing a Business Management program, she had enrolled in an honors course to become a Personal Support Worker and was continuing her studies when the tragedy occurred.

Police in Canada reported that the incident took place in the St. Catharines area on May 15. Authorities later arrested a 40 year old suspect identified as Joshua Saint Omar in connection with the case. He has been charged with second degree murder, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The victim’s father expressed deep grief while speaking about the loss of his daughter. He said the family learned about the incident several days after it occurred and is struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. The family has appealed to authorities to help bring her mortal remains back to India at the earliest so that final rites can be performed according to family traditions.

The case has drawn attention from political leaders in Gujarat. Local representatives and state officials have reached out to the family and assured them of support in coordinating with relevant authorities. Efforts are reportedly underway to facilitate the return of Vidhi’s body to India.

The shocking incident has sparked emotional reactions across Gujarat, where many residents have expressed solidarity with the grieving family. Friends and relatives remember Vidhi as a determined young woman who traveled abroad to build a better future through education and hard work.

As the investigation continues in Canada, the case has once again highlighted the challenges and security concerns faced by students pursuing education in foreign countries. The family now awaits both justice for Vidhi and the return of their daughter for a final farewell.
