Food Safety Inspection Exposes Major Violations at Kukatpally Lulu Hypermarket

Food safety officials found serious hygiene violations, expired products, rotten vegetables, and unsafe food items during a surprise inspection at Lulu Hypermarket in Hyderabad's Kukatpally area.

A surprise inspection at Lulu Hypermarket in Kukatpally has uncovered serious food safety concerns, raising questions over hygiene and quality standards at one of Hyderabad’s busiest retail destinations. Officials seized a large quantity of food items after finding multiple violations during the inspection.

Food Safety Department teams conducted the raid as part of ongoing action against food adulteration and unsafe food practices across the city. During the operation, authorities reportedly seized nearly 150 kilograms of food products including sweets, oils, flour, meat products, and pulses that were considered unsafe for consumption.

Officials found several irregularities across different sections of the store. Rotten vegetables, expired packaged products with damaged and misleading labels, and food items stored under unhygienic conditions were among the issues identified during the inspection.

The inspection team also noticed leftover food being stored inside refrigerators. In some sections, products were reportedly found without proper FSSAI licenses. Authorities observed insects inside the store and found contamination in products such as gram flour, wheat flour, and pulse packets.

The meat section reportedly drew serious concern after officials detected a strong foul smell and noticed blocked drainage systems nearby. Investigators also identified violations in multiple sections including the meat cutting area, retail counters, and the in house kitchen facilities.

Food samples collected from the supermarket have now been sent for laboratory analysis to determine whether additional violations exist. The findings have sparked concern among regular shoppers, especially as the store attracts large numbers of customers every day.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of strict food safety monitoring and has reminded consumers to remain cautious while purchasing packaged and fresh food products from large retail outlets.
