Tilak Varma Chosen to Lead India A Squad for Sri Lanka Tri Series
Young Telugu batter Tilak Varma will captain India A in the upcoming Sri Lanka tour as teenage talent Vaibhav Suryavanshi receives his first major opportunity at international level.

The BCCI has announced the India A squad for the upcoming one day tri series in Sri Lanka, giving several young players a valuable chance to showcase their talent on the international stage.
Hyderabad batter Tilak Varma has been handed the responsibility of leading the side. The left handed batter, who already impressed in Team India colours and franchise cricket, will captain the squad during the tournament.
Riyan Parag has been selected as vice captain for the series, which will feature India A, Sri Lanka A, and Afghanistan A teams.
One of the biggest highlights of the squad announcement is the selection of fifteen year old batting youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The teenager caught attention with his fearless batting performances in IPL 2026 and is now being seen as one of the most exciting young players in Indian cricket.
Selectors also included several players who performed strongly in domestic cricket and the IPL this season. Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh secured a spot in the team along with promising batter Priyansh Arya.
Kumar Kushagra was picked as the second wicketkeeper batter in the squad. The bowling attack includes youngsters such as Anshul Kamboj, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh Charak, and Arshad Khan.
India A also features a strong group of all rounders including Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Harsh Dubey, and Suryansh Shedge. Cricket experts feel the squad has a good mix of experienced performers and fresh young talent.
The BCCI reportedly wants to use the series as a preparation platform for future national team prospects by giving them exposure against quality international opponents.
The tournament will take place in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. India A will open its campaign against Sri Lanka A on June 9. The team will then play Afghanistan A on June 11 before facing Sri Lanka A again on June 15 and Afghanistan A on June 17.
The final match of the tri series is scheduled for June 21.
After the completion of the limited overs tournament, India A will also play two longer format matches against Sri Lanka A. The squad for those red ball games is expected to be announced separately in the coming days.
