Medical Aspirants Face Uncertainty as NEET UG 2026 Exam Gets Cancelled

Thousands of medical aspirants across India were left shocked after the National Testing Agency announced the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 examination amid serious allegations of question paper leaks and exam related irregularities.

The entrance examination, conducted on May 3 for admission into medical courses, has now become the centre of a major investigation following claims that portions of the paper were circulated before students entered examination halls.

Officials said the decision to cancel the test was taken after preliminary findings from an expert review committee pointed towards possible malpractice during the examination process. Authorities stated that protecting fairness and maintaining the credibility of the national level exam were the main reasons behind ordering a re examination.

The controversy reportedly began in Rajasthan, where investigators uncovered suspicious activity linked to a consultancy network operating from Sikar district. During the probe, police found evidence suggesting that a document containing hundreds of predicted questions had been shared digitally well before the examination date.

According to sources connected to the investigation, several questions from the circulated material closely resembled those that appeared in the actual NEET paper, especially in science subjects such as biology and chemistry. The similarities triggered further investigation into a wider network suspected of facilitating the leak.

Police teams have already detained multiple individuals in connection with the case. Investigators are examining the possible involvement of students, intermediaries and others linked to coaching and consultancy operations spread across different states.

The incident has also raised concerns over the security systems used during large scale entrance examinations. Despite the use of technologies such as AI based surveillance cameras, GPS enabled monitoring and signal blocking systems, authorities are now facing criticism over how confidential material may have been compromised.

For nearly 24 lakh students who appeared for the examination, the cancellation has become emotionally exhausting. Many students expressed frustration over having to restart preparations after months of intense study and pressure.

Government officials said stronger guidelines related to exam centre management, question paper transport and digital security measures are likely to be introduced before the next examination is conducted. The revised NEET schedule is expected to be announced soon.

While the investigation continues, students and parents across the country are now hoping for a transparent process that restores confidence in one of India’s most important competitive examinations.
