Fact Check: Telugu Post Fact Check Debunks Fake Claim of Free AC Scheme by PM Modi

A viral social media video claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a free air conditioner scheme offering one AC per Aadhaar card. Telugu Post Fact Check found the claim false, and PIB Fact Check confirmed that the video is fake.

A video circulating on social media claims that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced a government scheme to provide free air conditioners to people across India. According to the viral message, anyone with an Aadhaar card can receive one free AC, provided they apply for the scheme.

The video further claims that selected applicants will have an air conditioner installed in their homes within 30 days. The message urges people to apply quickly to take advantage of the supposed offer.

However, Telugu Post Fact Check investigated the claim and found no evidence that the Prime Minister or the central government had announced such a scheme. The video has been identified as fake.

Rising Temperatures Do Not Mean Free AC Scheme

The claim has circulated at a time when rising temperatures have increased demand for cooling appliances across India. Air conditioners and air coolers have become increasingly popular as households look for ways to cope with extreme summer heat.

The original Telugu report also highlighted strong sales in the air-conditioning market. Voltas Limited, part of the Tata Group, reportedly sold one million room air conditioners within 81 days, reflecting substantial consumer demand.

However, these market developments have no connection to the alleged government scheme. The growing demand for air conditioners does not establish that the government is distributing them free of charge.

What Did Telugu Post Fact Check Find?

To verify the viral claim, Telugu Post Fact Check searched for official announcements and credible news reports using relevant keywords related to Prime Minister Modi and the alleged free AC scheme.

The investigation found no official announcement confirming that the government was offering free air conditioners to Aadhaar cardholders. There was also no verified information supporting the claim that selected applicants would receive an AC installation within 30 days.

The report further noted that information about central government welfare schemes can be checked through the official MyScheme portal at https://www.myscheme.gov.in/. The portal did not list the alleged free AC scheme.

The absence of an official listing, alongside the lack of a credible announcement, raised serious doubts about the viral message.

PIB Fact Check Declares the Video Fake

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit (PIB Fact Check) also investigated the claim and rejected it.

According to the clarification cited in the Telugu Post report, the video was artificially generated using AI, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not made any such announcement.

The fact-checking unit clarified that the central government was not running a scheme to provide free air conditioners as claimed in the viral video.

It also urged people to remain cautious about attractive offers circulating online. Users were advised not to trust suspicious messages or forward them to others without verifying their authenticity.

How to Identify Such Fake Government Schemes

Fraudulent messages often use the names and images of prominent leaders to make unverified offers appear genuine. Promises of expensive products, free benefits and quick approvals can encourage people to click suspicious links or share personal information.

Before applying for a government scheme, people should check official government websites and verified announcements. They should also avoid submitting Aadhaar details, banking information or other personal data through unverified links.

A video featuring a political leader should not be treated as authentic proof of an announcement, particularly when the audio or visuals may have been generated or altered using AI.

Fact Check Verdict: False

The claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a free AC scheme offering one air conditioner per Aadhaar card is false.

Telugu Post Fact Check found no evidence of such a government announcement. PIB Fact Check also clarified that the viral video was AI-generated and that no such scheme was being implemented.

People should verify welfare scheme announcements through official government sources before trusting or sharing them.
