Hyderabad Police Accident: Hyderabad Ganesh Duty Turns Fatal as Kothagudem SI Dies in Bike Collision
A Kothagudem police sub inspector died after an unidentified two wheeler hit him during Ganesh immersion duty in Hyderabad, leaving him critically injured.
Hyderabad Police Accident: A police officer who had come to Hyderabad for Ganesh immersion security duty died after being hit by an unidentified two wheeler late Tuesday night. The accident occurred in the Saifabad police station limits.
The deceased was K Venkanna, 57, a sub inspector at Kothagudem Two Town Police Station in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. He was from Kishtapur village in Rayaparthy mandal of Warangal district.
Venkanna had been assigned security duty near the NTR Gardens foot overbridge as part of the arrangements for the Ganesh immersion. At around 2 am, a two wheeler travelling from the Secretariat side towards the Ambedkar statue reportedly struck him.
The rider did not stop after the crash and fled from the spot. Venkanna fell onto the road and suffered serious injuries to his head, right knee and right hand.
He was taken to a private hospital in Lakdikapul for treatment. After receiving initial medical care, Venkanna went to the Saifabad police station and lodged a complaint himself. He later contacted an acquaintance and returned to his native place.
His condition worsened later in the day. Family members took him to a local hospital, where doctors found that he had suffered bleeding inside the head. Despite treatment, Venkanna died at the hospital.
Saifabad police have registered a case and started efforts to identify the rider involved in the accident. Investigators are checking available information to trace the two wheeler and the person who was riding it.
The incident has left the police department mourning the death of an officer who had travelled to Hyderabad for festival security arrangements. The investigation is continuing as police work to establish the circumstances of the collision and locate the unidentified rider.
