Dada vs King 100: Balakrishna and Nagarjuna Set for Christmas Box Office Clash

Dada vs King 100: After nearly a decade, Balakrishna and Nagarjuna are heading for another direct box office clash. Their upcoming films Dada and King 100 are scheduled to reach theatres on December 24, setting up a much awaited Christmas release battle.

Dada is the new title announced for NBK 111, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and directed by Gopichand Malineni. The film is said to feature Balakrishna in the role of a Mumbai mafia don. The makers have locked December 24 as the release date.

On the other side, Nagarjuna is coming with King 100, which marks a major milestone in his career as his 100th film. With both projects arriving on the same day, attention has already shifted towards how the two movies will perform at the box office.

The rivalry between the Nandamuri and Akkineni families goes back several decades, beginning with the era of NTR and ANR. Balakrishna and Nagarjuna have also faced each other at the box office on several occasions.

Their films first came face to face in the 1987 Sankranti season, when Balakrishna appeared in Bhargava Ramudu and Nagarjuna starred in Majnu. Later that year, Kirayi Dada and Bhanu Mati Gari Mogudu also competed and both managed to find success.

The rivalry continued through the late 1980s and 1990s. Nagarjuna’s Shiva and Balakrishna’s Balagopaludu arrived around the same period in 1989, with both films making a strong impact. In 1991, Balakrishna’s Talli Tandralu had the upper hand over Nagarjuna’s Nirnayam.

One of their most memorable clashes came in 1994. Nagarjuna’s Hello Brother and Balakrishna’s Bhairava Dweepam released within a short gap. Both films attracted audiences, while Bhairava Dweepam went on to achieve a memorable long run.

In 1996, Balakrishna’s Vamsanikokkadu emerged ahead of Nagarjuna’s Vajram during the Sankranti season. The two stars met again in 2004, when Nagarjuna’s Mass became a major success against Balakrishna’s Vijayendra Varma.

Their most recent direct clash came during Sankranti 2016. Balakrishna arrived with Dictator, while Nagarjuna released Soggade Chinni Nayana. Nagarjuna’s film turned out to be the clear winner.

Now, ten years later, the two actors are preparing for another face off. With Dada and King 100 carrying different genres and their own fan bases, the December 24 releases have created considerable curiosity.

For fans of both stars, the Christmas season could turn into another chapter in the long running Nandamuri and Akkineni box office rivalry. Which film gets the stronger response will become clear once the two movies meet audiences.
