Delhi Building Collapse: A four storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area on Sunday afternoon, triggering a major rescue operation near Delhi University’s South Campus.

Two people trapped beneath the debris have already been rescued, while emergency teams are continuing to check the rubble for anyone else who may be stuck inside.

The building was being used as a paying guest accommodation and was reportedly occupied mainly by students. Local residents said around 50 students could have been inside when the structure came down.

The fact that the collapse happened on a Sunday has added to concerns, as most students were likely to be at the accommodation because it was a holiday.

A student present near the site said cries for help could be heard from beneath the debris, raising hopes that others might still be alive and waiting to be rescued.

Emergency crews moved quickly after receiving the alert. At least 12 fire engines were sent to the location along with an excavator to help remove the heavy rubble.

Disaster response teams have also joined the fire personnel at the site. Rescue workers are carefully clearing the collapsed sections while searching for people who may still be trapped.

The cause of the building collapse has not been established yet. Officials are expected to examine the structure and surrounding area once the immediate rescue work is completed.

The number of people inside the building at the time of the accident is also yet to be officially confirmed. Rescue teams are continuing their efforts, with the priority remaining the safe recovery of anyone still under the debris.
