Sadhguru Proposes Himalayan Disaster Board After Nepal Floods

Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has called for stronger regional cooperation among Himalayan countries following the devastating floods in Nepal. He proposed creating a dedicated board involving India, China, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan to respond to disasters and protect the fragile mountain ecosystem.

Speaking at the In Solidarity With Nepal event in Kathmandu on Sunday, Sadhguru announced a Rs 1 crore contribution towards relief efforts for people affected by the floods.

He said Nepal should not be expected to handle such a large scale disaster alone. Immediate assistance is important, he noted, but countries in the Himalayan region also need long term plans to prepare for similar emergencies in the future.

Sadhguru pointed out that the Himalayas do not recognize political boundaries and argued that the mountain region should be treated as one connected ecological system. He urged the concerned countries to establish the proposed Himalayan board without delay and work together on disaster preparedness and environmental protection.

He also spoke about the scale of the recent disaster along the Nepal Tibet border. Thousands of people are reported to be missing, and the final death toll could be considerably higher, he said.

Sadhguru said 77 people from an Isha Kailash pilgrimage group who were at the Gyirong immigration centre on the Chinese side were still unaccounted for. Three Isha volunteers on the Nepal side were also reported missing.

Addressing the way natural disasters are discussed, Sadhguru said such events should not be given spiritual or religious explanations. Physical events, he said, have physical causes, and the suffering of victims should not be diminished through philosophical interpretations.

He also announced that the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore would conduct a Kala Bhairava Karma ceremony for those who lost their lives in the floods.
