Iran Rally: Hundreds of Thousands Take to Streets Against the US

Iran Rally: Hundreds of thousands of people gathered in Tehran on Friday for a government organized rally as tensions with the United States and Israel continue. The event was presented by Iranian authorities as a display of national unity and readiness to defend the country.

Large crowds moved through central Tehran carrying Iranian flags, while some participants wore military style clothing. The gathering also included displays of drones and other military equipment. Demonstrators chanted slogans against the United States and Israel during the event.

The rally is linked to a volunteer campaign known as Janfaday-e Iran, which roughly refers to people willing to sacrifice themselves for the country. Participants have been encouraged to receive basic military training and prepare for national defence.

General Hassan Hassanzadeh, commander of the Tehran Revolutionary Guard, said more than 600,000 people had registered for the training campaign. He also said the number could exceed one million. However, those figures were not independently verified.

The turnout in Tehran was also subject to different estimates. Iranian state media reported that more than 300,000 people were on the streets, while organisers used a separate figure of 313,000 for the parade. The numbers therefore vary depending on the source.

Iranian officials say the volunteers could form an additional layer alongside the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Basij paramilitary organisation. The campaign has been promoted through state media in recent days, with reports saying participants would soon begin weapons training.

Basij chief Hossein Taeb addressed the gathering and said the volunteers would be prepared for what he described as full scale defence. President Masoud Pezeshkian, senior military commanders and other officials were also present during the event.

The demonstration comes at a difficult time for Iran. The country is facing economic pressure from US sanctions and a US naval blockade affecting Iranian ports. The conflict has also created uncertainty around trade, energy supplies and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The government has used the rally to project unity at home and resistance to outside pressure. At the same time, independent reporting has noted that the event was organised by the authorities, so the size of the turnout should be understood in that context.

Some participants carried national flags, while others appeared in military uniforms. The event also featured symbolic displays linked to Iran’s military response and its ongoing confrontation with the US and Israel.

President Pezeshkian praised the gathering as a sign of national unity and said the participation reflected a commitment to protecting Iran’s independence and territorial integrity. Iranian state media described similar gatherings as part of a wider mobilisation campaign.

The Tehran rally is being closely watched because it comes amid continuing regional tensions and a worsening economic situation inside Iran. Whether the volunteer campaign will translate into a larger military training programme remains to be seen.

For now, the government is using the mobilisation to demonstrate public participation and preparedness, while the exact scale of support among the wider Iranian population remains difficult to measure independently.
