Deadly Bangkok Pub Fire Kills 27 as Investigation Begins

A tragic fire tore through a popular pub in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, late Sunday night, leaving at least 27 people dead and 63 others injured. Emergency teams rushed to the scene as frightened visitors tried to escape the smoke filled building.

The incident occurred at the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 30 minutes before bringing it under control. Authorities said many victims were found near the rear restrooms, where they are believed to have sought shelter from the flames and thick smoke.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the fire spread rapidly to the roof, filling the building with dense smoke. He explained that most of the fatalities were caused by suffocation rather than burns. Officials also confirmed that 22 of the injured remain in critical condition.

Investigators are examining whether blocked emergency exits prevented people from escaping safely. Initial findings suggest obstacles near the fire exit may have trapped several people inside the crowded venue during the panic.

Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the accident site to review the rescue efforts. During his visit, a musician who was performing at the pub told him that he noticed smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the electricity failed. Moments later, a loud explosion was heard and the fire spread quickly.

Local singer Sukanya Wangwangwai said one member of her band died in the disaster while another is still missing. Survivors recalled that the sudden power outage plunged the pub into darkness, making it nearly impossible to find exits as smoke rapidly filled the building.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine whether the pub management violated fire safety regulations. Officials are expected to examine the building’s safety systems, emergency exits and electrical equipment to identify the exact cause of the deadly incident.
