Bahamas Plane Crash Kills Ten as Small Aircraft Falls into Sea

A devastating plane crash in the Bahamas claimed the lives of all ten people on board after a small passenger aircraft crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff on Friday. The tragedy unfolded on the country’s 53rd Independence Day, turning what should have been a day of celebration into one of national mourning.

The Cessna 402 aircraft had departed from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and was heading to San Andros Island. Within minutes of takeoff, the aircraft went down in waters off North Andros, west of the capital. Rescue teams rushed to the scene, but none of the occupants survived.

Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis initially stated that one passenger had been rescued alive. However, officials later confirmed that the individual died while receiving treatment at a hospital, raising the final death toll to ten. The Prime Minister expressed deep sorrow, describing the Independence Day tragedy as a heartbreaking loss for the nation.

The same day, another aircraft operated by Flemingo Air was also involved in a separate incident. A flight bound for Mayaguana Island experienced a technical problem shortly after departure, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing at Nassau airport. After all passengers safely evacuated, the aircraft caught fire on the ground.

Following the two serious incidents involving the same airline, the Bahamas aviation authorities temporarily suspended Flemingo Air’s Air Operator Certificate as a safety precaution. Officials said the decision would remain in effect until safety assessments are completed.

The Bahamas Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority has launched a detailed investigation into both incidents to determine the exact causes and recommend measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
