Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Set to Launch With Privacy Display

Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its next flagship smartphone lineup in China, with the Xiaomi 18 Pro series scheduled for September 23. The company has already confirmed several features ahead of the launch, including a new privacy focused display and an upgraded rear screen.

The privacy display is one of the most noticeable additions to the upcoming phones. Xiaomi says the technology is built into the display itself and is designed to restrict viewing from the sides. The concept is similar to the privacy display introduced with Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra, allowing the person directly in front of the phone to see the screen more clearly while making the content harder to view from an angle.

The display technology is also being positioned as more than a simple privacy mode. Reports indicate that Xiaomi plans to offer flexibility for specific applications, notifications and floating windows, allowing users to control when privacy protection is activated.

Display quality is expected to remain a major focus. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is reported to use a flat AMOLED panel based on new luminescent material. Xiaomi says the new panel offers around 20 percent higher luminous efficiency than the previous generation and can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits.

Another feature returning to the flagship series is the screen on the rear of the phone. Xiaomi is calling the upgraded system the Versatile Back Screen. Instead of limiting the secondary display to basic information, the company has demonstrated functions such as water intake reminders, vocabulary learning, focus tools and other small applications.

The rear screen is also getting an AI related upgrade. Xiaomi says users will be able to generate application cards for the secondary display according to their requirements, potentially expanding the number of tasks that can be handled from the back of the phone.

The overall design continues the visual approach introduced with the previous generation. The phones are expected to retain a large horizontal camera section combined with the rear display, while the surrounding design receives smaller refinements. Xiaomi has also shown a new blue colour alongside black and white options.

Performance details have also started appearing through benchmark listings. A device identified as model M1544F, believed to be the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, appeared on Geekbench with 12GB of RAM and Android 17. It recorded 3,582 points in the single core test and 12,247 points in the multi core test.

The processor name attached to the benchmark listing is Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, although this name and the exact commercial configuration have not yet been officially confirmed by Qualcomm or Xiaomi. The listing also shows an Adreno 850 GPU.

Another benchmark listing linked to the Xiaomi 18 Pro has also appeared. The device reportedly carries 16GB of memory and recorded 3,619 points in single core testing and 11,842 points in multi core testing. These benchmark appearances provide an early indication of performance, but final retail specifications can differ from testing units.

Camera hardware is expected to be another major area of improvement. Reports have pointed to high resolution 200 megapixel cameras for the Pro series, including a possible 200 megapixel main camera and a 200 megapixel telephoto camera on the Pro Max. These specifications remain part of the pre launch reports unless Xiaomi confirms them officially.

Battery capacity is also expected to receive a significant increase. Reports suggest that the top model could feature a battery of up to 8,500mAh, which would give the series a considerably larger power reserve than many current flagship smartphones.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to include at least two models, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. The company has confirmed the September 23 launch in China, while details about availability in other markets have not been fully confirmed.

With the launch now close, Xiaomi is gradually revealing the features that will define its next flagship generation. The privacy display, rear screen, brighter AMOLED technology and next generation processor platform are shaping up as some of the main highlights.
