Meta Child Safety Notice: The Central Government has issued a notice to Meta over Instagram advertisements and content that allegedly promote or facilitate Child Sexual Abuse Material. Authorities have directed the company to immediately remove such content from the platform and ensure that similar material is not allowed to circulate.

Government sources said Meta has been asked to submit a detailed explanation within seven days. Officials warned that failure to respond or comply with the directive could lead to legal action under applicable laws.

The government also questioned how such advertisements were approved for publication in the first place. It has sought details of the corrective measures Meta has taken since the issue came to light and whether stronger safeguards have been introduced to prevent similar incidents.

Officials stressed that even if the content originated from third parties, Meta could still be held accountable because the company earns revenue from advertisements displayed on its platforms. If the allegations are found to be valid, the responsibility will rest with the platform, they added.

The move reflects the government’s growing focus on strengthening online child safety and ensuring that digital platforms maintain stricter moderation standards for harmful and illegal content.
