iQOO 16 Tipped to Feature World First 2K 165Hz Display

The iQOO 16 launch is getting closer, and the company has now revealed one of the phone’s most important features. Instead of keeping the display details for the launch event, iQOO has confirmed a specification that could make the upcoming flagship particularly interesting for mobile gamers.

The smartphone will feature a 2K resolution display with a 165Hz refresh rate. iQOO claims that the combination makes the iQOO 16 the world’s first smartphone to offer a 2K 165Hz panel. The company revealed the technology during a Samsung Display and iQOO screen technology event.

The display has been developed around technology from both companies. iQOO is bringing its own screen technology, while Samsung Display is contributing its latest panel technology and luminous material. The panel uses Samsung’s 2K LEAD 2.0 technology and M16 luminous material.

According to iQOO, the iQOO 16 will be the first Android smartphone to use Samsung’s latest luminous material. This could give the display an important advantage in areas such as brightness, colour reproduction and overall visual performance.

Brightness is one of the areas where the new panel is expected to stand out. The screen supports 1100 nits of manual peak brightness, while its global peak brightness can reach 2800 nits. Local peak brightness is claimed to reach as high as 10000 nits under suitable conditions.

The panel also has a custom high refresh rate integrated circuit designed specifically for the display. iQOO says the screen provides 1.24 times P3 gamut coverage, while colour uniformity has improved by up to 39.6 percent. Brightness uniformity is also claimed to be better by 22.3 percent.

iQOO is also adding its Q Flex Control technology to the phone. A battery of this size could help compensate for the power demands of a high resolution 165Hz display, although actual endurance will depend on software optimisation and usage.
