iPhone Duo Repair Cost Revealed by Apple in India

Apple has officially disclosed the service charges applicable to the iPhone Duo under its AppleCare Plus protection plan in India. The information is particularly important for buyers considering the company’s expensive foldable smartphone.

The iPhone Duo starts at Rs 2,99,900 for the 256GB version in India. Higher storage variants cost considerably more, with the 512GB model priced at Rs 3,24,900, the 1TB version at Rs 3,74,900 and the 2TB model reaching Rs 4,49,900.

With such a high purchase price, accidental damage is naturally a concern for owners. AppleCare Plus is designed to reduce the financial impact of certain repairs, although customers still have to pay a service fee when they make an eligible accidental damage claim.

According to Apple’s listed charges, damage to the front display carries a Rs 2,500 service fee for customers covered by AppleCare Plus. The same Rs 2,500 fee applies to eligible back glass damage.

The cost changes significantly when the internal folding display is affected. Apple lists a Rs 8,900 service fee for inner display damage. The same fee applies to other eligible accidental damage covered under the plan.

For customers who choose AppleCare Plus with Theft and Loss coverage, the listed service fee for a lost or stolen device is Rs 15,900, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.

AppleCare Plus itself is not included with the phone. In India, the two year AppleCare Plus plan for the iPhone Duo is priced at Rs 51,900. The AppleCare Plus plan with Theft and Loss costs Rs 59,990 for two years.

The protection plan therefore adds a substantial amount to the initial purchase cost. For example, a 256GB iPhone Duo priced at Rs 2,99,900 would cost Rs 3,51,800 when the Rs 51,900 AppleCare Plus plan is added.

However, the value of the plan becomes more apparent when the potential repair bills are considered. A foldable smartphone contains additional components compared with a conventional phone, including a flexible internal display and a hinge mechanism.

The iPhone Duo has two screens, which makes display protection particularly relevant. A problem with the internal folding panel can be considerably more expensive than damage limited to the outer glass.
