Centre Digital Agriculture Mission to Boost Telangana Smart Farming

The Central Government’s renewed focus on digital agriculture is expected to further strengthen Telangana’s position as one of India’s leading states in technology driven farming. The initiative aims to improve farmer registration, crop documentation and the delivery of government services through digital platforms.

According to the Union Agriculture Department’s 2025 to 26 annual report, the Digital Agriculture Mission has already generated more than eight crore farmer identities across the country. The programme is also expanding digital crop surveys and streamlining online processing of crop insurance claims.

Telangana has already introduced several technology based initiatives, including Digital Crop Surveys, Agri Data Exchange and artificial intelligence powered advisory systems. These programmes are helping authorities create accurate agricultural databases to improve subsidy distribution, insurance settlements and policy planning.

Experts believe the Centre’s latest initiative will complement Telangana’s ongoing efforts in adopting advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, blockchain and smart irrigation systems. These innovations are expected to improve crop monitoring, resource management and farm productivity.

Agriculture policy experts say integrating farmer identification, crop records and insurance databases could reduce duplication, improve transparency and ensure quicker delivery of benefits to farmers. They also note that maintaining accurate land records and regularly updating crop information will remain essential for the success of digital governance.

The report further highlighted digital platforms such as DigiClaim and YES Tech, which have enabled faster online settlement of crop insurance claims across the country. Officials believe these systems will strengthen agricultural planning and improve support for farmers by making government services more accessible and efficient.
