AI in Telangana: AI Driven Saagu Baagu Shows Telangana’s Path to Better Farm and Healthcare Access

AI in Telangana: A global report has identified Telangana’s Saagu Baagu programme as a successful example of how artificial intelligence can improve access to essential services. The report says the initiative demonstrates that AI can address real world challenges in agriculture while also offering lessons for healthcare and education.

Prepared by consulting firm BCG and technology investor Prosus, the report highlights Saagu Baagu for combining soil testing with AI based crop advisory. According to the findings, farmers reduced agricultural input usage by nearly nine percent, leading to better productivity and improved income per acre.

The report argues that India’s greatest opportunity with artificial intelligence is not only increasing efficiency but also expanding access to services in regions where resources remain limited. It recommends developing AI solutions tailored to local languages, slower internet connectivity and first time smartphone users.

Healthcare is another sector where AI can make a significant difference, the report notes. Although Hyderabad has advanced medical infrastructure, many rural and semi urban regions of Telangana still face shortages of specialist doctors and diagnostic facilities. AI assisted healthcare systems could help doctors serve larger populations while improving access to quality medical advice.

The report also points to opportunities in education, suggesting that AI powered learning tools can help students studying in regional languages such as Telugu and Urdu. Personalized digital learning could help bridge educational gaps across government schools.

Telangana has already introduced initiatives including the Telangana Diagnostic Scheme and Palle Dawakhanas to strengthen healthcare delivery in rural areas. The report says combining such programmes with artificial intelligence can further improve service delivery and reduce regional disparities.

Experts believe Telangana’s continued investment in agricultural technology and health technology could position the state as a leading innovation hub while improving the quality of life for people in rural communities.
