Telangana Paddy Procurement Delays Leave Farmers Under Pressure

Farmers across Telangana continue facing hardships as delayed paddy procurement and transportation issues create uncertainty over crop safety and timely payments during the Yasangi season.

Farmers in Telangana are facing increasing stress as paddy procurement problems continue to affect the Yasangi season. Large heaps of paddy and maize brought to market yards have reportedly remained at procurement centers for weeks, leaving growers worried about crop damage and financial losses.

Even after procurement centers were set up, delays in weighing and transportation have slowed the process considerably. Many farmers say their harvested crops are lying in open spaces while they wait for vehicles to move the produce to rice mills.

Transportation shortages have become a major challenge, with a lack of lorries creating a bottleneck in the movement of grain. Farmers are spending anxious days and sleepless nights as intense heat threatens to change the color of paddy, while unexpected rain raises fears of crop damage.

The situation has become more difficult because of limited labor availability and coordination issues among contractors and transport operators. Some farmers are also spending money from their own pockets to hire private vehicles in order to shift grain to mills.

Government officials stated that around 50 lakh metric tonnes of paddy have already been procured and large payments have been transferred into farmers’ bank accounts. Authorities also mentioned that thousands of vehicles and workers have been deployed to speed up the process.

However, many farmers at market yards say there is still a noticeable gap between official claims and what they are experiencing on the ground. They hope quicker action and better coordination will help reduce their burden and protect their crops from further loss.
