Telangana Kidney Death Rate: An ICMR linked study has revealed that Telangana records the highest kidney disease mortality rate in India, with uncontrolled diabetes emerging as the leading cause behind the growing health burden.
Telangana Kidney Death Rate: Telangana has emerged as the state with the highest Kidney Disease Death Rate in the country, according to findings highlighted in a research article published in a leading medical journal associated with the Indian Council of Medical Research. The study has raised concerns among health experts as the burden of chronic kidney disease continues to increase across the state.
Researchers analyzed disease trends between 1990 and 2023 using data from the Global Burden of Disease project. The findings showed that Telangana not only records a high prevalence of kidney disease but also reports the highest number of deaths linked to the condition when compared with other Indian states.
The study found that around 10,601 people per one lakh population in Telangana are affected by chronic kidney disease. Among them, nearly 19.84 people per one lakh population lose their lives due to complications related to the disease. This Kidney Disease Death Rate is significantly higher than the national average and far above the figures recorded in several other states.
Medical experts identified uncontrolled diabetes as the primary factor driving the rise in Kidney Disease cases. While diabetes contributes to a considerable share of kidney related illnesses across India, its impact appears to be much greater in Telangana. Delayed diagnosis and poor control of blood sugar levels are causing severe damage to kidney health among patients.
The report also highlighted a troubling trend among economically weaker sections. Many patients remain unaware of the disease during its early stages because symptoms often do not appear immediately. As a result, a large number of people seek medical treatment only after the disease reaches an advanced stage, reducing the chances of effective intervention.
Health specialists have urged the government to treat Kidney Disease as a major public health priority. They recommended regular creatinine and urine screening tests for people suffering from diabetes and hypertension at primary health centers, particularly in rural areas where access to specialized healthcare remains limited.
Experts further emphasized the need to strengthen dialysis services and kidney transplant facilities for poor patients. Improving healthcare infrastructure and increasing awareness about diabetes management could play a critical role in reducing the Kidney Disease Death Rate and preventing thousands of avoidable deaths in the coming years.
