Telangana Diplomat Dr K Srikar Reddy Appointed India’s Ambassador to Qatar
Senior Indian Foreign Service officer Dr K Srikar Reddy has been appointed as India's next Ambassador to Qatar, bringing extensive diplomatic and trade negotiation experience to the new assignment.
The Government of India has appointed senior Indian Foreign Service officer Dr K Srikar Reddy as the country’s next Ambassador to Qatar. He is expected to assume his responsibilities in Doha soon, succeeding Ambassador Vipul after the completion of his tenure.
Currently serving as the Consul General of India in San Francisco, Dr Reddy belongs to the 2001 batch of the Indian Foreign Service. The Ministry of External Affairs announced his appointment as India continues to deepen cooperation with Qatar in areas including trade, investment, energy, defence and people to people relations.
Originally from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district in Telangana, Dr Reddy studied medicine at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal before joining the diplomatic service. Over the years, he has represented India in several overseas missions, including Germany, Switzerland and Vietnam, besides serving at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.
His administrative experience also includes serving as the Regional Passport Officer in Hyderabad, where he supervised passport service reforms across the then undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2011 and 2014.
Before taking charge in San Francisco, Dr Reddy worked as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce. During that period, he played an important role in negotiating the India UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the India Mauritius CEPA, while also contributing to discussions on proposed trade agreements with the United Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
With this appointment, Dr Reddy will become the second diplomat from Telangana to serve as India’s Ambassador to Qatar, reflecting the growing contribution of the state to India’s diplomatic services.
