ED Arrests Former Minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao’s Son in Liquor Transport Case

Enforcement Directorate arrested Sunil Kumar in the Andhra Pradesh liquor transport contracts case while issuing summons to former minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao for questioning this month.

The Enforcement Directorate has arrested Sunil Kumar, son of former Andhra Pradesh minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged liquor transport contracts scam in the state.

After being taken from his residence on Thursday, Sunil Kumar was brought to the ED office for questioning. Following a brief round of interrogation, officials formally announced his arrest and shifted him to a hospital for medical examinations before producing him in court.

The Special Court handling ED cases later remanded Sunil Kumar to judicial custody until June 25. The court also directed that he be produced during the next hearing along with other accused persons already arrested in the same case.

Meanwhile, the agency has issued summons to former minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao, asking him to appear for questioning on June 23 as part of the continuing probe.

The case has witnessed several developments in recent weeks. Earlier this month, ED officials conducted searches at multiple locations in Hyderabad and arrested former Andhra Pradesh government IT adviser Raj Kasireddy and former Andhra Pradesh Beverages Corporation Managing Director Vasudeva Reddy.

Investigators reportedly seized important documents linked to transport contracts during the searches. Authorities also recovered several expensive watches valued at around Rs 94 lakh from premises associated with the family, according to the investigation records.

In a related development, the ED court dismissed a petition filed by Vasudeva Reddy seeking interim bail for one week on personal grounds. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the request and allowed the investigation process to continue.
