Vijay Launches Ration Card Drive: Tamil Nadu Launches New Ration Card Distribution Drive on Chief Minister Vijay’s Birthday

Tamil Nadu will begin distributing new ration cards on June 22 as Chief Minister Vijay launches the welfare initiative aimed at strengthening the public distribution system and supporting eligible families.

Vijay Launches Ration Card Drive: Thousands of families across Tamil Nadu are set to receive new ration cards as the state government prepares to roll out a major distribution campaign on June 22. The initiative will be formally launched by Chief Minister Vijay on the occasion of his birthday, marking a significant welfare measure aimed at improving access to essential benefits.

Officials from the Civil Supplies Department said around 46,000 new ration cards have already been prepared for the first phase of distribution. The cards will be issued to applicants whose eligibility has been verified following the review of pending applications submitted across the state.

The move is part of the government’s broader effort to strengthen the Public Distribution System and ensure that deserving beneficiaries are included in the welfare network. Authorities noted that a large number of applications have been under scrutiny in recent months as officials work to process requests efficiently.

Since January this year, nearly 2.25 lakh applications for new ration cards have reportedly been received from different districts. Verification and documentation checks are still underway, and officials indicated that additional cards will be distributed in subsequent phases once the review process is completed.

The launch event is expected to take place in Perambur, the assembly constituency represented by Chief Minister Vijay. During the programme, he is likely to personally hand over ration cards to selected beneficiaries, highlighting the government’s focus on public welfare and service delivery.

Alongside the ration card distribution campaign, the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party is also planning a series of service activities across the state to mark the Chief Minister’s birthday. Party members and volunteers are expected to participate in community welfare programmes as part of the celebrations.
