The IPL 2027 auction is expected to take place in Goa this December, marking the league’s return to India after recent editions were held at overseas venues.
IPL 2027 Auction: The IPL 2027 auction is set to return to India, with Goa chosen as the venue for the event, according to BCCI officials.
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said the board has decided on Goa for the auction and that December 15 or 16 are being considered as the likely dates. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also earlier indicated that the auction would be held in Goa during December.
Unlike the previous three editions, which were staged outside India, the upcoming auction will take place on home soil. Dubai, Jeddah and Abu Dhabi hosted the previous events, including the major auction in Jeddah.
The IPL 2027 auction is expected to be a smaller event compared with a mega auction. With fewer player changes generally involved in such auctions, the proceedings could be completed in a single day.
A final date is yet to be confirmed. The BCCI is expected to announce the schedule once the remaining arrangements are completed.
The decision to bring the auction back to India comes after three consecutive editions were held at overseas locations. Goa will now get the opportunity to host the high profile cricket event for the first time.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has also shifted the venue for an upcoming India A women’s match against Australia A.
The match, originally scheduled to be played in Dharamsala from September 29 to October 2, has been moved to Mohali. Heavy rain has affected the outfield at the Dharamsala ground, while the local weather conditions have also raised concerns over the match.
The PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali will now host the game. The venue is already being used for the ongoing three match ODI series between the two sides.
The venue change is aimed at avoiding further disruption and ensuring better playing conditions for the India A and Australia A women’s teams.
For the IPL, the focus will now shift towards finalising the auction date and completing preparations in Goa. Once confirmed, the event will mark a return of the IPL auction to India after its recent overseas run.
