Dinusha Denies India Clean Sweep: India’s hopes of completing a 2 0 Test series sweep against Sri Lanka were dashed in Colombo as Sonal Dinusha produced a determined second innings performance to secure a draw.

Coming into the final day, India needed four more wickets to finish the match. Sri Lanka, however, refused to give them an easy opening. Dinusha stood firm at the crease, frustrating the Indian bowlers and gradually turning the contest in his team’s favour.

Dinusha had already scored a century in the first innings and went one step further in the second. Starting the final day on seven, he remained unbeaten on 133 and carried Sri Lanka to 429 for nine before the match ended in a draw.

His performance also gave him a rare place in Asian Test cricket history. Dinusha became the only Asian batter to score more than 50 in each of his first four Test innings against India. His scores across the two Tests were 100, 84, 103 and 133 not out.

The Colombo Test also saw Dinusha join an elite group of Sri Lankan batters who have scored centuries in both innings of the same Test. Aravinda de Silva and Kumar Sangakkara have achieved the feat twice, while Duleep Mendis, Asanka Gurusinha, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis have also done so.

India had taken control early in the match after declaring their first innings at 503 for nine. Sri Lanka were then dismissed for 290, giving India a 213 run lead and prompting them to enforce the follow on.

Sri Lanka’s second innings told a very different story. The hosts showed far greater resistance, with Dinusha leading the fightback. Despite losing nine wickets, Sri Lanka reached 429 and managed to save the Test.

The result meant India could not complete the expected clean sweep, while Dinusha emerged as the central figure of Sri Lanka’s remarkable escape.
