Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik has questioned Pakistan’s recent Test performances, saying instability within the team has affected results and weakened its ability to compete.

Pakistan were beaten 3 to 0 in the series, and their performances left little room for encouragement. Karthik, who worked as a commentator during the series, said the team appeared ordinary and struggled to put up a strong fight against England.
Speaking about what he saw during the matches, Karthik pointed to Pakistan’s inability to spend enough time at the crease. He noted that across the first two Tests, the team did not manage to bat for even 90 overs across their two innings in each match.
While the pitches offered challenges, Karthik felt they were not so difficult that Pakistan should have been dismissed so quickly. For him, the issue went beyond conditions and reflected deeper problems within the team.
Karthik also agreed with former England captain Nasser Hussain’s assessment that Pakistan’s current approach is damaging to Test cricket. He questioned several decisions surrounding the squad, particularly after Rajabullah produced a strong performance in the final Test.
The former India player wondered why the youngster had not been part of the team from the beginning of the series. He also questioned the thinking behind Pakistan’s selection process and the kind of players currently being picked for Test cricket.
According to Karthik, frequent changes in leadership and coaching have added to the uncertainty. He feels that the lack of stability is beginning to show clearly in Pakistan’s performances on the field.
The England series became a clear example of those concerns. Pakistan struggled to compete consistently and failed to put England under sustained pressure. Karthik believes the gap between Pakistan and several established Test playing nations has become increasingly noticeable.
Pakistan have traditionally enjoyed a strong reputation in Test cricket, with a long history of producing outstanding players and memorable performances. Karthik said the team’s current position is therefore particularly disappointing when compared with that history.
He also stressed that fixing the problems will not be straightforward. The former India cricketer hopes the people responsible for Pakistan cricket recognise the situation and take the necessary steps to rebuild the side.
For Pakistan, the challenge now goes beyond recovering from one poor series. The team needs greater stability in selection, leadership and coaching if it wants to restore confidence and remain competitive in the longest format.
