Delhi Hotel Fire Case Takes New Turn as Owner Arrested and Judicial Probe Ordered

The investigation into the devastating fire that killed 21 people in South Delhi has gathered pace, with police arresting the owner of the hotel where the tragedy occurred and authorities ordering a judicial inquiry.

The fire broke out in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar, claiming the lives of 21 people, including 18 foreign nationals. The incident has triggered widespread concern over safety standards in hotels and guest accommodation facilities across the capital.

Soon after a criminal case was registered, hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj reportedly went into hiding. Police launched an extensive search operation and issued a lookout notice to prevent him from leaving the country. He was eventually traced and taken into custody.

In response to the tragedy, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tarunjit Singh Sandhu convened an emergency review meeting with senior officials from the Delhi government and various departments. The meeting focused on strengthening fire safety enforcement and preventing similar incidents in the future.

Officials have been directed to launch a month long fire safety drive covering hotels, guest houses and other vulnerable establishments throughout the city. Authorities will inspect buildings for compliance with safety regulations and identify potential hazards.

The Lieutenant Governor also instructed departments to take strict action against institutions found violating fire safety norms. Measures could include sealing premises that fail to meet mandatory requirements.

The judicial probe will examine the circumstances that led to the deadly blaze and determine whether negligence or safety violations contributed to the disaster. Investigators are expected to review records, safety clearances and operational practices linked to the property.

As the inquiry moves forward, officials say accountability and stronger enforcement will be key priorities in ensuring such a tragedy is not repeated.
