Bihar Temple Stampede: Seven Devotees Killed in Stampede at Bihar Temple

A stampede at Ashokdham Temple in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district left seven devotees dead and several others injured after panic spread following a fallen electric wire.

At least six people were killed and several others injured after a sudden crowd surge at Ashokdham Temple in Lakhisarai, Bihar, on Monday morning.

The incident took place after a large number of devotees gathered at the temple. Officials said the crowd increased sharply within a short period, creating intense pressure among those present.

Lakhisarai District Magistrate Shailendra Kumar said two trains arrived in the area between around 6.30 am and 6.45 am, adding to the number of people heading towards the temple. Although arrangements had been made in anticipation of a large gathering, the crowd eventually became difficult to control.

According to the district administration, a section of the barricading gave way under the pressure of the gathering. People then fell over one another, resulting in the stampede like situation.

Lakhisarai SDPO Shivam Kumar confirmed that six people had died in the incident. Emergency teams were immediately sent to the spot after authorities received information about the mishap.

Several injured people were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment. The bodies of those who died were also brought to the hospital as officials began the necessary procedures.

Police and district administration teams remained at the temple to control the situation and manage the devotees who were still at the site. Officials were also working to prevent another crowd-related incident.

The exact circumstances surrounding the deaths are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities are also assessing the crowd management arrangements that were in place when the incident occurred.

The sudden arrival of the two trains was one of the factors that contributed to the rapid increase in the number of devotees, according to the district administration. Officials said they had expected a large gathering but the actual crowd grew beyond what could be handled smoothly.

Rescue and relief operations were launched soon after the incident. Police personnel and local officials were deployed across the area to maintain order and assist those affected.

The incident has once again highlighted the difficulties authorities face in managing large gatherings at religious places, particularly when thousands of people arrive within a short period.
