SIR Notices to Celebrities: Telangana’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls has reportedly reached several well known names, with celebrities, sportspersons and other prominent individuals said to have received SIR notices.

Reports circulating in Telangana suggest that actors Mahesh Babu, Venkatesh and Samantha, filmmaker SS Rajamouli, actor Vijay Deverakonda and Upasana Konidela are among those whose voter details have come under verification. Former cricketers VVS Laxman and Mithali Raj, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and shuttler Saina Nehwal have also reportedly received notices.

The notices are part of the voter list verification process and do not by themselves indicate that the individuals have committed any wrongdoing. Election officials are checking records where details do not match or where inconsistencies appear in existing electoral data.

Some of the reported discrepancies involve differences in names, variations between voter records and Aadhaar details, or errors in parents’ names. Officials are also examining unusual age differences between parents and children and inconsistencies in the dates of birth of family members.

Several such errors may have originated during earlier data entry exercises. Mistakes involving surnames, ages and family details were reportedly recorded in some voter databases. The notices are intended to allow officials to verify the information and make corrections where necessary.

The SIR exercise began in Telangana on June 25. More than 73 lakh names reportedly came under the deletion list during the process, prompting the Election Commission to extend the deadline for receiving objections on multiple occasions.

The draft electoral roll was published on August 17. Claims and objections are scheduled to be accepted until October 7, while the deadline for completing hearings and resolving objections is November 5. The final voter list is expected to be published on November 9.

People who receive notices are required to appear before the concerned Booth Level Officer or electoral registration authority on the specified date. They can submit documents such as Aadhaar, passport or Class 10 certificates to support their details and seek corrections.

Officials have also reportedly made provisions for prominent individuals who may not be available in person. Such voters can send an authorised representative for the hearing after completing the required verification process.
