Actor Devan Resigns From BJP, Set to Join Vijay’s TVK

Actor Devan, who served as the Kerala BJP vice president, has quit the party and is reportedly preparing to join Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the political outfit led by Tamil cinema star Vijay. His move could give TVK an early political presence in Kerala as the party looks beyond Tamil Nadu.

Devan had merged his own political outfit with the BJP in 2021. However, he has now openly expressed dissatisfaction with the way the BJP leadership operates in Kerala. He also alleged that the party has moved away from the ideals of social reformer Sree Narayana Guru and claimed that some leaders appeared more focused on interests other than electoral success.

Explaining his decision, Devan said he no longer believed that remaining in the BJP would help him achieve his political objectives. He therefore decided to end his primary membership and move on to a new political platform.

His next move is already taking shape. Representatives of TVK reportedly visited Devan at his residence following an invitation from Vijay. The discussions focused on expanding the party’s activities in Kerala and the possible responsibilities Devan could take up.

Devan is expected to meet Vijay personally in Chennai on September 10. The meeting is likely to be significant, with discussions expected to cover his formal entry into TVK and a possible leadership role for the party’s Kerala unit.

If confirmed, Devan could become an important face for TVK in Kerala. His entry would also mark an early step in Vijay’s broader effort to build the party’s presence beyond Tamil Nadu.
