Jaiswal Falls for Duck: Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls for Duck in Fourth Day First Over
India suffered an early setback on the fourth day of the Galle Test as Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed without scoring, putting pressure on the visitors’ second innings.

Jaiswal Falls for Duck: The fourth day of the first Test between India and Sri Lanka got underway in Galle, with India beginning its second innings after taking a 178 run lead in the first innings.
India, however, did not get the start it wanted. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the very first over. Asitha Fernando got the breakthrough, with Jaiswal giving a catch to the wicketkeeper.
Devdutt Padikkal then joined KL Rahul in the middle and wasted no time getting off the mark. He struck a boundary in his first over and followed it up with another four in the next over bowled by Keshav.
After two overs, India were 9 for 1, with Padikkal unbeaten on 8 and Rahul at the other end.
India had posted 462 in the first innings, while Sri Lanka were bowled out for 284. The visitors therefore carried a 178 run advantage into their second innings.
The weather remains a concern in Galle, with rain already affecting the match earlier in the game. India will be keen to score quickly and build a strong target before conditions change again.
The pitch is also expected to become more difficult to bat on as the match moves towards the fourth innings. The average score in the third innings at this venue is around 239, while the fourth innings average is much lower at about 154.
Sri Lanka will take confidence from their past record at Galle. Pakistan chased down 342 on this ground four years ago, but targets of that size have been rare. The next highest successful chase was 268, while the third highest was only 164.
With India already holding the advantage, the next few sessions could decide how much pressure Sri Lanka face in the final innings.
