Galle Test Day Two: India Reach 460/9 After Rain Hit Day Two
Devdutt Padikkal’s career best 167 kept India firmly in control as rain reduced the second day to only 43 overs in the opening Test against Sri Lanka.

Galle Test Day Two: India remained in a strong position at the end of the second day of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, reaching 460 for nine after a day heavily affected by rain.
Devdutt Padikkal was the standout performer once again. After finishing the opening day with a century, the left hander continued to look comfortable and eventually made 167, his best Test score. His long stay at the crease gave India the platform to push well beyond the 400 run mark.
India began the day at 288 for two, but the start was delayed by rain and the first session was completely washed out. Only 43 overs could be played, during which India added 172 runs but lost seven wickets.
KL Rahul, who had retired hurt with cramps on the opening day, returned to the crease and continued his innings. He reached 82 before being dismissed, adding valuable runs during an important phase of India’s innings.
Sri Lanka’s bowlers eventually found some success as the day progressed, particularly through spin. Prabath Jayasuriya led the attack with four wickets, while debutant Keshara Nuwantha picked up three. Their efforts prevented India from running away with an even bigger total.
Dhruv Jurel then provided the lower order with a useful contribution, scoring 51. His attacking approach helped India cross the 450 mark before he was dismissed.
At the close of play, Kuldeep Yadav was unbeaten on 12 and Prasidh Krishna was on one. India’s total stood at 460 for nine after 116 overs.
The Indian innings was completed early on the third morning at 462, with Padikkal’s 167 remaining the defining contribution.
