Fee Reimbursement: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that students will receive full fee reimbursement from the current academic year, saying the government has kept around Rs 2,400 crore ready for the programme.

Revanth Reddy made the announcement at a programme held near Necklace Road in Hyderabad, where he unveiled statues of social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

The Chief Minister said students should not have to keep approaching anyone for their reimbursement amount. According to him, the government plans to keep the required funds ready in advance so that payments can be made without the delays seen in the past.

The fee reimbursement issue has been a major concern for students and colleges in Telangana. The government had earlier told the High Court that reimbursement payments for the current academic year would be cleared by August 15. It also assured the court that pending amounts for students in higher years would be paid.

Revanth said education can play a major role in changing the lives of young people. Referring to Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule, he said their work more than a century ago showed how education could become a tool for social change.

The programme at Necklace Road was also used to speak about the importance of social equality and opportunities for disadvantaged communities. The Chief Minister referred to the importance of the caste survey carried out by the Telangana government and said it was aimed at understanding the population of backward communities more clearly.

He also spoke about the changing competition in the job market. According to Revanth, having only a degree may not be enough for young people today because thousands of students are completing professional courses with high marks.

The Chief Minister encouraged students to learn practical and technical skills along with their regular education. He said such skills could improve their chances of finding employment in India as well as other countries.

He referred to opportunities available for trained workers in countries such as Germany, Japan and South Korea. The government, he said, would work towards helping skilled young people find opportunities abroad.

Revanth also mentioned sports while speaking to students and young people. He said those who perform well in sports and win medals would be encouraged through cash rewards and other incentives, including opportunities in government employment.

The event also saw comments from other leaders on the importance of welfare programmes and social justice. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the government was working with the aim of improving the welfare of weaker sections.

Bhatti referred to the caste survey and said the state had conducted it scientifically to understand the social composition of Telangana. He said such information was important while discussing reservations and welfare measures.

The event also brought political comments from Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who criticised the BJP and accused it of moving away from constitutional values. Minister Konda Surekha spoke about the government’s efforts for poorer sections of society.

Congress state president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the contribution of Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule towards social equality would continue to inspire future generations. He also said a statue of Sarvai Papanna would be unveiled later this month.

Rajya Sabha member R Krishnaiah raised the issue of buildings for welfare hostels and residential institutions and urged the government to take steps in that direction.

The fee reimbursement announcement comes at a time when the issue has already faced legal and political debate in Telangana. Earlier, the High Court had placed restrictions on parts of the government’s fee reimbursement order before later suspending the interim stay after recording assurances from the state government.

For students and their families, the main point in the latest announcement is the government’s promise to arrange the reimbursement funds in advance. If implemented as announced, the move could reduce the pressure on students who have faced difficulties because of delayed payments.

The government has also been moving towards a direct benefit transfer approach for fee reimbursement from the 2026 to 2027 academic year, with the amount intended to reach eligible students through their bank accounts.
