Petrol Bomb Attack on Shakib Al Hasan Home Raises Security Concerns in Bangladesh

A shocking attack on the residence of former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan has sparked fresh security concerns in the country. Unknown attackers allegedly hurled petrol bombs at his home on Wednesday night, prompting a swift response from local residents and law enforcement agencies.

According to local reports, a group of individuals arrived on motorcycles and threw petrol bombs at the property around 9 pm. The explosions triggered a fire, but nearby residents quickly intervened and managed to extinguish the flames before significant damage could occur.

Police confirmed that none of Shakib’s family members were inside the house when the attack took place, preventing any injuries. Security personnel have since been deployed around the property to avoid further incidents while investigators work to identify those responsible.

The attack is believed to have followed Shakib’s virtual participation in a recent press conference held by former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Shakib had earlier served as a Member of Parliament representing the Awami League, and his parliamentary position ended following the change in government.

Meanwhile, Sajeeb Wazed, son of Sheikh Hasina, sharply criticised the current political situation in Bangladesh. He alleged that thousands of people, including many Awami League leaders, continue to remain in prison and claimed that several elderly detainees have been denied bail. He also expressed concern over what he described as increasing external influence in the country’s affairs and urged India to closely monitor developments along its eastern border.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the petrol bomb attack, while political tensions surrounding the incident continue to draw national attention.
