Death Toll Rises to Two After Terror Attack on Migrant Workers in Jammu and Kashmir
Another migrant worker injured in the terrorist attack in Kulgam district has died in hospital as security forces intensify search operations to track down the attackers.
The death toll in the recent terrorist attack on migrant workers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district has risen to two after another injured worker succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in hospital. Security agencies have intensified operations to trace those responsible for the attack.
The deceased has been identified as Bhupinder Kumar, who was seriously injured when unidentified terrorists opened fire on a group of migrant workers in the Kellam area. Despite receiving medical treatment, doctors were unable to save his life.
A day earlier, another injured worker identified as Deepak had also died from injuries sustained in the same incident. One more injured worker continues to receive treatment, while medical teams are closely monitoring his condition.
According to police officials, the victims were employed at a brick kiln in Kellam when the attackers suddenly opened fire. The assailants fled the scene immediately after carrying out the shooting, prompting a large scale security response in the region.
Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the surrounding area and launched an extensive search operation to locate the terrorists. Additional personnel have been deployed as authorities continue combing nearby villages and forest areas for possible leads.
The Resistance Front, commonly known as TRF, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The outfit is regarded as an affiliate of the Pakistan based Lashkar e Taiba and has been linked to several attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned the attack and expressed grief over the loss of innocent lives. He reviewed the security situation with Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and other senior officials soon after the incident.
The Lieutenant Governor directed security agencies to intensify anti terrorism operations and ensure that those behind the attack are identified and brought to justice at the earliest. He also instructed officials to strengthen measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
The latest attack has once again raised concerns over the safety of migrant workers employed in the Union Territory. Thousands of workers from different parts of the country travel to Jammu and Kashmir every year for seasonal employment in construction, brick kilns and other industries.
Authorities have assured that every effort is being made to investigate the case thoroughly while continuing operations against terrorist groups active in the region. The investigation remains ongoing as security forces work to identify all those involved in the deadly attack.
