Third Flood Warning Issued at Bhadrachalam as Godavari River Reaches Dangerous Level
The Godavari River has crossed a critical level at Bhadrachalam prompting a third flood warning while heavy rainfall continues to affect several districts across Telangana.
Flood conditions have intensified in Telangana as the Godavari River continues to rise sharply at Bhadrachalam. Authorities have issued the third flood warning after the river touched the 55 foot mark, with nearly 1.5 million cusecs of floodwater flowing downstream from upstream regions.
Emergency teams have stepped up rescue and relief operations as low lying villages and riverbank areas remain under threat. Officials are shifting residents from vulnerable locations to safer places and relief camps while continuously monitoring the river’s movement.
Several important locations in and around Parnasala have been inundated by floodwaters. Religious sites, including the area associated with Sita Amma’s sacred garments, Sri Rama’s throne, the Sita Amma idol and a wooden bridge, have been submerged. Flooding has also affected nearby commercial establishments.
Road connectivity has been severely disrupted after water flowed over major routes linking Bhadrachalam with Charla, Kunavaram and Burgampadu. Authorities have suspended vehicle movement on affected roads, while RTC bus services to several villages have also been temporarily halted.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Meteorological Centre said the southwest monsoon remains active over Telangana. The weather department has forecast light to moderate rainfall in several districts over the next two days, with moderate to heavy showers likely in parts of northern Telangana.
During the previous twenty four hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded in 96 mandals across the state. Beerpur mandal in Jagtial district received the highest rainfall of about 14 centimetres. Significant rainfall was also reported from Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Nirmal and Warangal districts.
Authorities have urged people to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. Residents have been advised to stay away from overflowing streams, flood affected roads and the Godavari riverbanks until the flood situation improves.
