Prahlad Joshi Given Additional Charge as Union Education Minister

Following Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, Prahlad Joshi has been entrusted with the Education Ministry while continuing as Consumer Affairs Minister, marking a significant change in the Union Cabinet's key responsibilities.

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has been assigned the additional responsibility of heading the Ministry of Education after Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from the position. Joshi will continue to serve as the Minister for Consumer Affairs while taking on the new portfolio.

The decision was announced through an official communication from Rashtrapati Bhavan. According to the statement, President Droupadi Murmu accepted Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation with immediate effect based on the recommendation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The President also approved the transfer of the Education Ministry to Prahlad Joshi in addition to his existing responsibilities.

The Cabinet reshuffle comes after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned amid growing pressure over the NEET paper leak issue. Student protests were reported from different parts of the country, with demonstrators demanding accountability and seeking his removal from the post.

Speaking after submitting his resignation, Pradhan said the issue was never about personal status or position. He expressed concern over the developments that unfolded during the past several days and said the situation had deeply disturbed him.

With Prahlad Joshi now overseeing the Education Ministry, the government is expected to focus on restoring confidence in the country’s education system while addressing concerns surrounding recent examination controversies.
