Hyderabad Plans New Six Lane Flyover to Ease Old City Traffic Congestion
A proposed six lane flyover connecting Mylardevpally and Katedan towards Shamshabad is expected to improve traffic flow and provide faster access to Hyderabad International Airport.
Hyderabad could soon witness another major road infrastructure upgrade as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has proposed a new six lane grade separator aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the Old City. The project has been submitted to the state government and is awaiting administrative approval before construction begins.
The proposed flyover will stretch about 2.08 kilometres from Mylardevpally through the busy Katedan junction towards Shamshabad. Designed at an estimated cost of Rs 345 crore, the project is intended to improve traffic movement along one of the city’s most congested routes.
Officials believe the new corridor will significantly benefit daily commuters travelling from Old City, LB Nagar, Uppal, Karmanghat and surrounding areas. It is also expected to provide a smoother and quicker route for passengers heading to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad by reducing delays at key junctions.
According to GHMC officials, the proposal was forwarded to the government several months ago and is currently awaiting final administrative clearance. Once approvals are granted, the civic body plans to begin the tendering process and start construction at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is preparing another large scale traffic improvement project. The authority has proposed an elevated corridor linking GVK Mall in Banjara Hills with the PVNR Expressway through Masab Tank and Mehdipatnam.
The proposed elevated corridor is expected to extend for nearly three to four kilometres. It is being planned to offer uninterrupted travel towards the airport while easing traffic congestion in Banjara Hills, Masab Tank and nearby commercial areas. The project will also include multiple entry and exit ramps along with underpasses to improve connectivity across the corridor.
Officials are currently working on the detailed project report for the elevated corridor. After securing government approval, the project will move to the execution stage as part of Hyderabad’s broader traffic management and infrastructure expansion plans.
