Indian National Killed in Black Sea Attack on Commercial Ship as India Condemns Strike

India has confirmed the death of one of its citizens after a commercial ship came under attack while sailing in the Black Sea. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the Ministry of External Affairs strongly condemned attacks on commercial vessels and stressed the importance of protecting civilian lives at sea.

According to the Ministry, the attack took place on July 18 when the commercial vessel MV Omorfi was travelling through the Black Sea in Russian territorial waters. The ship had ten crew members on board, including three Indian nationals. One Indian crew member lost his life in the attack, while the other two were reported to be safe.

The Indian Embassy in Russia is in constant contact with local authorities and is providing all necessary assistance to the family of the deceased. The government said every possible effort is being made to support those affected by the tragedy.

India also reiterated that targeting commercial ships and putting innocent civilian crew members at risk is unacceptable. It called on all parties to ensure maritime security and prevent disruptions to international trade by keeping global shipping routes safe.

The incident comes only days after another attack on the commercial vessel MV Golden Leopard, which had departed from Ukraine’s Odesa port earlier this week. That attack claimed the lives of four Indian nationals. The latest tragedy has raised fresh concerns after another Indian citizen lost his life in a similar incident within a week.
